Developing 520 bhp from its 6.0-litre V12, it can do over 200 mph. "The Vanquish is our flagship model and the standard 460 bhp will continue to be built", says Aston CEO Dr Ulrich Bez. "However, this derivative makes the car even more exceptional. The latest Vanquish S is not only the fastest Aston Martin ever, but it is the best-handling too. It is the ultimate high-performance Aston Martin."
The power and torque boost - the latter is up 25 lb ft to 425 lb ft - has been achieved by fitting new cylinder heads with fully-machined inlet ports and combustion chambers to improve airflow, revised engine mapping, new fuel injectors and spark plugs and new hot-forged connecting rods. Mid-range acceleration has been improved, with 50-70mph coming up nearly two seconds quicker in 6.5 sec. Acceleration 0-60 mph comes up 0.2 seconds quicker, in 4.8 seconds.
The S features a more rounded, open-looking front grille, an aerodynamic front splitter spoiler, a redesigned boot lid to reduce lift plus revised steering geometry for a 20percent quicker response. Aerodynamic performance is enhanced, with a drag co-efficient down to 0.32Cd. The Sports Dynamic suspension, steering and braking package - optional on the 460 bhp model - is standard, comprising stiffer springs and dampers, shorter steering arms, larger six-piston brake calipers, larger grooved and ventilated front brake discs, wider rear brake discs and new brake pedal assembly for reduced pedal travel and increased feel. The Vanquish's luxurious cabin has gained more supportive all-leather sports seats (for either the two-seat or 2+2 configuration) and additional detailing tweaks for S-spec.
Aston hasn't confirmed pricing for the S as yet, but says that customers will be eligible for a complimentary one-to-one driving course, offered at either Millbrook in the UK, Lommel in Belgium or Romeo, Michigan.
