in poche parole se trovo i componenti del GTI e li sostituisco sulla mia avrei una GTI! un po' troppo ottimistico ma potrebbe essere fattibile

You are right about the GX being a low compression engine and the "GTI" engine being high compression.

In the states the 1.8 16 valve was "PL" and the 1.8 8 valve was "PF"

I don't thing you can really beef up a GX even to match the PF.

You will be much better off doing an engine swap,

In the states, the GX cars came with either CIS or a weird variant of CIS-E with a vacuum advance distributor and no knock box, but it did have the Differential Pressure regulator.

You best be may be to find a car with and ABF engine and swap everything, engine, trans, and do a wiring swap as needed.

confesso che la parte in grassetto ci ho capito poco (dice che non si può fare?)
mentre l'ultima è chiara... trapiantare il 2.0 16v del mk3 gti... cioè se fosse un operazione plug e play in futuro si potrebbe anche fare (faccina che sbava)
